Scott M. Davis, 2017-present
Originally from Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, Scott M. Davis is the Director of Bands at South Dade Senior High School in Homestead, Florida. Prior to his arrival, Mr. Davis had taught in Washington, D.C. for 8 years as a Band Director for both Middle and High School students. Additionally, Mr. Davis was the Associate Conductor for the Southern Maryland Concert Band, where he conducted concerts at the National Harbor on the banks of the Potomac River.
At South Dade Senior, Mr. Davis directs the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Jazz Band, the Buccaneer Marching Band and Beginning Band classes. He also teaches AP Music Theory and lessons to his Visual and Performing Art Magnet students.
Under his direction, the band program at South Dade Senior is on track to double in size for next year. Additionally, the Wind Ensemble has performed at FIU’s Festival of Bands, receiving valuable feedback to continue to improve. His Jazz Band recently won the Battle of the Bands, which meant that they got to perform on the same stage as the Presidio Brass. The Buccaneer Marching Band has participated in many local events, in Homestead and Miami-Dade County. They have also performed at Universal Studios in 2018 and Disney World’s Magic Kingdom in 2019. The Buccaneer Marching Band was also featured in the November 2018 issue of Go Latinos! magazine.
Mr. Davis received his Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education from Penn State University and his Master of Music in Instrumental Music from the University of Miami. His conducting teachers have included Dennis Glocke, Richard Bundy, and Nicholas De Carbo. His clarinet teachers have been Amando Smilo and Smith Toulson. His oboe teachers have been Timothy Hurtz and Robert Wiener.
As a teacher, Mr. Davis is active in the National Association for Music Education, the Florida Music Educators Association, and the Florida Bandmasters Association.
